Fast Food Facts

Remember

  • Fast food is usually high in fat, calories, cholesterol, and sodium.
  • Fast food is any food that is quick, convenient, and often inexpensive.
  • Too much fast food can lead to health problems such as high blood pressure, heart disease, and obesity.
What is fast food and why is it so popular?
Fast food is any food that is quick, convenient, and usually inexpensive. You can buy fast food just about anywhere that sells food and snacks. Vending machines, drive-thru restaurants, and 24 hour convenience stores are probably the most common places to find fast food. It's so popular because for under RM10.00 you can usually get a filling meal. However, fast food is inexpensive because it is usually made with cheaper ingredients such as high fat meat, refined grains, and added sugar and fats, instead of nutritious foods such as lean meats, fresh fruits, and vegetables.

Is fast food bad?
There is no such thing as a “bad” food. All foods can fit into a healthy meal plan. It's true that fast food is usually high infat, calories, cholesterol, and sodium, but eating fast food every once in a while is not going to cause you problems. If you eat too much fast food over a long period of time, though, it can lead to health problems such as high blood pressure, heart disease, and obesity.

Is some fast food healthier than others?

Fast food - Consumer Beware

Fast-food and take-out restaurants are everywhere. According to food industry statistics, fast-food restaurants serve millions & millions of youngsters worldwide every day.

In 2003, junk food restaurants including McDonald’s, Kraft and Coca-Cola announced that health and nutrition was  high up on their agendas, in response to worldwide teens packing on the pounds. This was supposed to change  how they approach fat content, menu choices and marketing to promote healthier lifestyles. (Yahoo News, July 19, 2003)

Food Labels - Part III - Understanding Them Is Critical To Your Health

Food labels contain a wealth of information about the healthfulness of the product if you know what to look for and how to interpret them. The packaging of a food product tells you nothing about how healthy the product is. It tells you what the manufacturer wants you to think about the healthfulness of the product.

 Nutrition Facts
The Nutrition Facts on food labels gives you information on calories, grams of fat, cholesterol, sodium, carbohydrates, dietary fiber, sugars, and protein in each serving plus some percentages of a few nutrients. What they don't tell you is that:

1 gram of fat = approx. 9 calories.
1 gram of protein = approx. 4 calories.
1 gram of carbohydrate = approx. 4 calories.
4 grams of sugar = 1 teaspoon of sugar

Label reading - Part II

Since 2005, Malaysia has made it compulsory for food companies to label their packaged products with nutrient content. Manufacturers must state the amount of energy, carbohydrate, protein and fat in each 100gm of the product or per serving.
Nutrient information for vitamins, minerals, sodium and cholesterol is optional. (Check the Nutrition Month Malaysia 2008 Guide at www.nutriweb.org.my)
Here’s a brief on what to look for when we scour through the mind-boggling variety of food products in the market. It’s unrealistic to carry a guidebook on additives when we shop but paying attention to the labels is a good start!
Label 1: chicken sausage (locally made)
  1. The label chicken meat is only a fraction of the content. The flavour enhancers give you the chicken “taste”. It would be good if the manufacturer can list the ratio of chicken, corn starch and soya protein in sausage.

How to READ FOOD LABEL

How often when we go shopping we stare at the label sticker on the food product and wondered what it really means... I mean what does it says? with the figures on it? what is Amount serving? total carbs? total fat? cholesterol? and what are the scientific food means like? MSG? Sodium? Flavourings???  How on earth we ordinary consumers have a clue what it stands for?

Well.. to help educate consumers all around; here i found some of these useful articles that may teach us a bit on reading these labels. Good luck!

Nutrition facts

Food labels provide nutrition facts and information about the foods that your family eats.
From the amount of calories, fiber, and total fat grams, to the food's ingredients, the food label is your key to the nutrition information in the foods you provide to your family.

It can help you to increase the healthy nutrients that you want your family to eat, like calcium and fiber, and limit nutrients that can be unhealthy, like fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, and sodium.

And reading food labels can you to compare foods that you are going to buy and choose foods that are more healthy than others.

How much exactly CALORIES we BURNT when we do housechores?

Ola ola.. happy mondays!!! hows ur wknd so far? was it a happy happy one?.. hehe nways...last weekend me & hubs spent our Sundays house cleaning. it was a whole day's work and we were good teamwork indeed. hehe. For a moment i wondered if a whole day of chores can actually burnt our calories and have us losing weight from it. how much can we lose in a day's work?

So here i compiled various views & articles - voila!
Burning calories is a huge part of weight loss and weight management. We need to get rid of as many calories as possible, while still eating a healthy diet. Often times this means moving. One great way to burn calories in our everyday lives is to get to work on the house. After all, most of us enjoy a clean house, and with burning calories as a great excuse for getting to it, we have few good reasons left to put it off.

How to know is he THE ONE?

Love is a blissful feeling and when someone is in love, emotions run high. While the heart takes the center stage, the head is left far behind. Everything appears rosy and lovey-dovey for the twosome. However, when it comes to making a choice as a lifetime partner, almost everyone is confused. Even after loving a person for months, things might take an uncertain turn. So, the most likely thing that you should follow is to listen to the head. While the heart has done the job it is now the turn of the head to act wisely and rationally and show signs that would indicate that he is the one for you. Read on and find out how to know he’s the one for you.

All about interfaith marriages - good info

Interfaith Marriages

Children have the right to be brought up in an Islamic environment by good Muslim parents. So Muslim men in the West should think carefully before marrying outside the faith.
Muslim men and women are told to seek faithful spouses with a strong, good belief, and not allow non-Muslim standards of selection influence them. Muslim men can marry only Muslim, Christian, or Jewish chaste women, while Muslim women can marry only chaste Muslim men.
Allah (s.w.t.) said:
This day are (all) good things made lawful for you. The food of those who have received the Scripture is lawful for you, and your food is lawful for them. And so are the virtuous women of the believers and the virtuous women of those who have received the Scripture before you (lawful for you) when you give them their marriage portions and live with them in honor, not in fornication, nor taking them as secret concubines. Whoso denies the faith, his work is vain and he will be among the losers in the Hereafter.[Qur'an: Al-Ma'idah (5:5)].

Meet Lil Mischika..

Here is our new addition to the family.....Hehehe see how cute &; adorable she is..

Btw her name was inspired by the famous brand badgley mishka hehehe. but we call her Chika.  She's only almost 2months old and a Himalayan persian breed

here's more info on her origin breed hehe

Himalayan (cat)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. The Himalayan cat is a breed of long-haired cat identical in type to the Persian, with the exception of its blue eyes and its point coloration, which were derived from the crossing of the Persian with the Siamese. In Europe they are referred to as Colourpoint Persians.
While the Himalayan is considered a breed separate from the Persian by The International Cat Association, it is grouped together with the Persian and Exotic Shorthair (shorthaired version of the Persian) under a "Persian Breed Group standard". The Cat Fanciers' Association considers the Himalayan a color variation of the Persian rather than as a separate breed, although they do compete in their own color division.

Body Type

A seal point Himalayan
Like Persian cats, the Himalayan cat tends to have a round (cobby) body with short legs, which makes it harder for them to jump as high as other cats do. Some do have more of a Siamese like body, though, and can jump as high as seven feet.
The cat shown in the photo is most likely a Birman. A Himilayan normally has the facial characteristics similar to the Persian, which is a flatter, wider face with "squashed" features. The Birman breed exhibits a muzzle shape more in line with the Siamese.

What Not to Put On Your Resume

by Susan Dunn

"Should I admit a weakness?” one of my coaching clients asked me. “Something tells me I shouldn’t.

”Something” was telling her right. Your best tool in writing a good resume, is your intuition, or common sense aka Emotional Intelligence.

Weaknesses
Don’t talk about your weaknesses unless you’re asked. In my years as a Career Counselor for college students, I received fledgling resumes that read “I don’t like people” or “I hate talking on the phone.” On the one hand,  such statements of extremes are rarely true, and on the other hand they are open to gross misinterpretation.

Susuk: Charm Needles under the Skin

Embedding foreign objects into one's body seems a high price to pay for beauty and success, but many are willing to take the risk with the ancient art of "Susuk".

I found this article when i was browsing up.. somehow the whole ancient story about it seems intriguing and quite rather mysterious for those involved in this old taboo. Anyways; as we all known Susuk is haram in islam in any-way as it changes what god has given. Do readup as its good info for us all--

Ancient Malayan Talismans, Modern Medical Skepticism

Known as “charm needles”, susuk is believed to bestow the wearer with many blessings, ranging from the aesthetic to protection against minor ailments and injuries. These needles are inserted in the soft tissues of the body by bomoh, or witch doctors, using methods which have been passed down by generations.
